NAWABSHAH: NDF Nawabshah in collaboration of Community Development Program (CDP)/UCBPRP, P&D Department Government of Sindh & Benazir Income support Program (BISP). Mr. Abid Lashari CEO NDF elaborated the importance of the day that All over the world, mental health is one of the biggest issues to be handled in our society. World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, the theme of this year was “YOUNG PEOPLE AND MENTAL HEALTH IN A CHANGING WORLD”. The overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide. It seems that the tendency of Intellectual (mental) disability is increasing because the knowledge and awareness is not available in our communities. In rural setups and small town these people with intellectual (Mental) disabilities are chained and locked in homes or wandering at the streets with dirty and tore clothes or naked. In some cases these people are sent to institutions/mental hospitals for life time. Keeping in view that mental health can be addressed through different treatments & rehabilitation that NDF established NDF Rehab Center in Nawabshah to bring regular services to children with intellectual disabilities, such as life therapies i-e Physiotherapy, Psycho-Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, limbs provision & independent living to 100+ Children with Intellectual Disabilities. He further told that organization provides residential/boarding services & Day Care services with better care & entertainment to the children to bring them out of trauma, entertainment with indoor/outdoor sports with recreations& proper care. The mental health disorders need regular care & attention to be rehabilitated. The parents are ultra-poor that they cannot meet the expenses of such therapies. Government should expand circles of such centers. Dr. Ayaz Psychotherapist & Speech therapist told that there are some types of mental disability i.e Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy (CP), ADHD & other mental retardation. The counseling especially family counseling does matter to understand mental health. Dr. Azra Jatt, Dr. Nida Arain, Dr. Mehak & Ms. Saira Lashari said that the parents have lead role to understand & to address mental health & mobilize efforts to support mental health under slogan no health without mental health.
