NDF MFF-IUCN funded Project brings changes in lives of Fishermen community

  

  

KETI BANDAR (15-02-2017): NDF is implementing the project under IUCN-MFF Small grant under title “To reduce harmful fishing Nets at Village Ali Hassan Dablo (Tippun) “at Hajamro creek of Keti Badar District Thatta. Dr. Stean Regional Head of IUCN came from Thailand to perform visit project activities. Mr. Stean held meetings with project staff, beneficiaries & concerned stakeholders & showed his sanctification. Earlier Mr. Abid Lashari briefed about project activities that the project has semsitized local community to refrain use of harmful nets & adopt legal fishing nets & alternate livelihood options. NDF MFF have provided legal nets, ice boxes, Mud Crab Fattening forms & training to increase their fish catch, market outreach & mud crab fattening. Fisheries Department Sindh collaborated with NDF during implementation phase. Mr. Stean visited mud crab forms, distributed nets & ice boxes meanwhile Fisheries department destroyed illegal fishing nets. During the visit Mr. Ghulam Qadir Shah National Coordinator MFF, Mr. Niaz Hussain Soomro, DFO Forest, Mr. Nadeem Mirbahar, Mr. Akhtar Samoo & others also spoke on the occasion.

SUKKUR: (22-08-2017) Pakistan US. Alumni Network (PUAN) Sukkur organised reunion in Sukkur. The leadership Mr. Anwar Ali President, Mr. Abid Lashari General Secretary, Ms. Diksha Ahuja Finance Secretary & Ms. Nameera Fayaz Youth Director welcomed all the participants. During the Reunion Mr. Anwar Ali Siyal said that PUAN Sukkur is providing social services at community level, the 10 Districts are part of the chapter. The Alumni are proactive. Mr. Abid Lashari said that In 2008, U.S. Embassy Islamabad launched the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN), an association of U.S. exchange alumni who are committed to making meaningful contributions to Pakistan though community service, conferences, mentoring future generations, and reaching out to inspire and recruit new exchange participants. All current and former Pakistani participants of U.S. federal government-sponsored exchange programs are eligible to become members of PUAN.

The network is jointly administered by the U.S. Embassy and the United States Educational Foundational in Pakistan (USEFP). The network is one of the largest and most active USG exchange alumni networks in the world, with more than 22,000 registered members and 12 local chapters throughout Pakistan. Active alumni chapters are located in the following cities/regions:

Our U.S, Consulate in Lahore covers the Bahwalpur, Lahore and Multan chapters, while the U.S. Consulate in Karachi covers the Baluchistan, Karachi, Jamshoro and Sukkur chapters. U.S. Consulate Peshawar covers the KP/FATA chapter. Mr. Lashari further said PUAN Pakistan strives to bring religious & cultural harmony between Pak-US.

 

NDF & NOWPDP organized camp for Special CNICs & Disability Certificates registration through one window operation

     

 

NAWABSHAH: (12-12-2017) NDF & NOWPDP organized camp for Special CNICs & Disability Certificates registration through one window operation in Nawabshah on dated 12-12-2017. The camp was inaugurated by Deputy Director Anti Corruption SSP Mr. Mir Nadir Ali Abro, Mr. Ali Mardan Umrani Medical Superintendent PMC Hospital, Nawabshah, Mr. Abdul Rehman Khaskheli District Officer Social Welfare, Mr. Rafiq Bular, Regional Officer NADRA, Mr. Abbas Jeevani from NOWPDP, & Mr. Abid Lashari President NDF. During the visit of camp Mr. Mir Nadir Ali Abro encouraged the efforts of NDF & concerned stakeholders to provide quick service through one window operation, he said the CNICs registration will give national identity & enables individual with disability to gain benefits of 50% fare in transportation i.e Road, Railway & Air, Free education, Jobs against reserved 05% quota & others. This kind of drive will benefits to 100s with disabilities, it must be replicated in other districts. Mr. Ali Mardan Umrani MS PMC Hospital said that Disability Assessment Board is available to provide its services individually or camp base. The camp is encourage able good source to increase outreach. Mr. Abdul Rehman Khaskheli District Officer Social Welfare said disability certificate & CNICs are basic documents for individual with disability. The camp has provided the services at one place which is easy & accessible for all. Mr. Abid Lashari said that individual with disability has difficulty to get their disability certificate & CNICs. The camp has facilitated more than 200 visitors. Mr. Abbas Jeevani from NOWPDP said that these camps are scheduled throughout Sindh under collaboration with NDF.

 

One Day Seminar on GBV, Community Policing & Disability Rights At Shaheed Benzir Bhutto University

NAWABSHAH: (05-12-2017) National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) & Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University in collaboration of Pakistan Forum for Democratic Policing (PFDP), Pakistan US Alumni Network (PUAN) & New Zealand High Commission, Pakistan organized one day seminar to mark world Disability day “Awareness rising on disability rights & prevention Gender Balance Violence through Democratic Policing”. Mr. Arshad Saleem Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) pressed need of education among persons with disabilities; he announced free education in university for special students. He said education is only source prove ability of persons with disabilities. He urged upon society to take unified efforts to reduce gender based violence. He said community police is ideal form of policing if this practice is implemented. Mr. Asim Jasra SP Nawabshah said that disability is not inability; they are very much capable if offered equal opportunities. He said the efforts of PFDP & NDF regarding community Police are encouraging & laud able. He said Community Policing efforts are under process in the department & Police serve for the nation. Police has good system to redress complains of women regarding GBV, mostly GBV cases are unreported because of societal customs. He said Women Police Officers are deployed to deal with women complains. Mr. Abid Lashari President NDF said that observance of 16 days activism is to make aware public regarding understanding GBV related cases & redress. He said Community Police empowers community not dictates. Community Policing is tie up of Police & community. Police is not ever regarded as Muhafiz, public ownership is lesser, this is the time to tie up Police & Community to mitigate FEAR of Police to promote a more positive, accessible image of the police and support the positive elements within the police working for good under Community Policing with slogan MY POLICE FOR ME, to own Police as first service provider. He further said that Community Policing is the way the police engages the public. This concept started from Police Reforms in American Police a century ago. It broadens the police mission from narrow focus on crime & law enforcement to a mandate encouraging exploration of creative solutions for host of community concerns including crime, fear of crime, and perception of disorder, quality of life & neighborhood conditions. Community policing rests on the belief that working with people, police will be able to improve quality of life. The Police must see themselves as part of Community rather than separate from the community. Mr. Ghulam Nabi Nizamani Focal person Sindh Social Welfare Department said that Government is committed to serve persons with disabilities through providing jobs against 5% quota & law on Disability is also passed, the amendments are under process to ensure facilities to disabled community. Mr. Sarfraz Korejo Founder member Pakistan US Alumni Network (PUAN) Sukkur Chapter said PUAN believes in financial empowerment of persons with disabilities, in this regard PUAN implemented 03 projects for vocational training of persons with disabilities, as a results hundreds were benefited, still PUAN is committed to deliver. PUAN has included persons with disabilities in leadership cabinet of PUAN Sukkur, Mr. Abid Lashari is with disabilities and elected as General Secretary. During the Seminar 15 Graduates of Vocational Training of English Language & Information Technology project funded by New Zealand High Commission Pakistan, were awarded certificate. NDF distributed 05 wheel chairs among persons with disabilities to ensure their mobility. Ms. Asma Munir, Mr. Abdul Rehman & others also spoke on the occasion.
